 Victorian Woking

Using the Census data from 1841 to 1911 and the Anglican Baptism and Burial Registers it is possible to estimate the people involved in the growth of Woking every 10 years

As the various Institutions and Businesses opened (and closed) the number of workers and their families resettling in Woking varied. Before the institutes' creation it appears that the fortunes of the Paper mill and printing works in Woking was a major driver in the number of "immigrants". There are distinct tranches of such workers and their families relocating to Woking from Areas known for Paper making such as the Darenth Valley in Kent and the area around Cheddar in Somerset.
